Joshua Tree National Park Campgrounds

There are nine main campgrounds in Joshua Tree National Park, though some are closed during the hot summer season. Many campgrounds accept reservations throughout the year, with reservations opening on a six-month rolling basis.
October through May is the most popular time to visit, and it’s essential to arrive early if you’re hoping to snag a first-come, first-served spot during this time. If you arrive and all sites are occupied, you can try camping outside the park or on BLM land. Just be sure to come prepared and always apply Leave No Trace principles.

Palm Spring to Joshua Tree
Best lodging options for those wanting to stay in Palm Springs and day trip to Joshua Tree.

Joshua Tree is located an hour’s drive from Palm Springs, and many visitors opt to stay in Palm Springs and visit the National Park as part of a day trip rather than overnighting in the park itself. Visiting independently or via a guided tour, it’s still possible to see many of the park’s highlights, though you’ll miss out on some of the longer trails and the clear night skies.
How to Get From Palm Springs to Joshua Tree
When driving from Palm Springs to Joshua Tree, enter the park via the West Entrance near Joshua Tree Visitor Center. To get here from Palm Springs, follow the CA-62 East to Yucca Valley, keeping right on Yucca Trail Rd and then right again on Quail Springs Rd until reaching Park Blvd. At the end of the day, exit via the South Entrance near Cottonwood Visitor Center and follow the I-10 West back to Palm Springs. This way, you’ll be able to experience both the northern Mojave Desert and the southern Colorado Desert in one trip.

Here, you’ll find the most lodging and Airbnb options, and the neighborhood has many restaurants, grocery stores, local boutiques, and spas. That being said, there are also ample accommodation options in nearby Twentynine Palms, and many choose to visit Joshua Tree as a day trip from Palm Springs, which is just an hour’s drive away.
Are Airbnbs allowed in Joshua Tree?
Yes. Per the current ordinance, short-term rentals are allowed for 30 days or less at a time. Owners are, however, required to obtain an operating permit.
Does Joshua Tree allow dogs?
Joshua Tree National Park allows (leashed) dogs, but they are very limited in where they can go in the park. Dogs are not permitted on hiking trails and must stay within 100 feet of roads (both paved and unpaved), picnic areas, and campgrounds.
